MSU Adds Alcorn State to 2013 Schedule, Drops UAB

The mystery as to how Mississippi State was going to have seven home football games next season has been solved. The school just announced that the Bulldogs will host Alcorn State on Sept. 7, 2013, which replaces a road trip to UAB on the schedule. Dropping UAB was actually sort of expected.

That gives MSU three non-SEC home games. It’s opening the season against Oklahoma State in Houston.

MSU has played Alcorn once before, earning a 49-16 win in 2010.

“It remains important to us to schedule teams from the state of Mississippi,” MSU athletics director Scott Stricklin said in a statement. “We’ve played Jackson State and Alcorn State and have Southern Miss on the schedule in coming years. We feel it benefits Mississippi State University, as well as our opponents and the state of Mississippi.”

Here, now, is the complete 2013 non-conference schedule.

• Aug. 31 Oklahoma State (Houston)

• Sept. 7 Alcorn State

• Sept. 21 Troy

• Oct. 12 Bowling Green

I've covered Mississippi State athletics for the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (djournal.com) since August of 2008. I like sports, but I love writing.

Did they have to pay UAB to back out of that agreement?

Will they play the W in 2014?
