A Closer Look: Bulldogs Tackle Tackling Issue (Plus Links)

Linebacker Cam Lawrence said following MSU’s 38-13 loss to Texas A&M that missed tackles has been a “re-ocurring” issue. So the Bulldogs have been working on that this week.

“We’ve been coming to practice every day, we’ve been really aggressive,” Lawrence said Tuesday. “We’ve been hitting our scout team running backs pretty hard. That’s going to be good for us. It’s going to be a smashmouth football game, a lot of guys in the box. That’s how we like it.”

All the missed tackles this season can cause one to question the physical toughness of this team. None of the coaches or players see an issue there.

“Absolutely not. Absolutely not,” defensive coordinator Chris Wilson said. “The biggest thing that college football has gone to is, you look at Oregon and what they were able to do a week ago. You look at K-State, Oklahoma State, that are making you play in space and creating mismatches at times. It’s really important that you’ve got the right guys on the field doing the right things, and so that’s really key.”

“As far as physicalness we’ve had as much as we’ve needed to,” Lawrence said.
