Mississippi State has a new soccer coach, as Aaron Gordon was introduced this afternoon. It’s the first head coaching job for Gordon, 43, who spent the previous six seasons helping build up the Texas Tech program. He was associate head coach there this past season. The Red Raiders won a school-record 16 games this year and made their first trip to the NCAA tournament.
Gordon has also coached at the club and professional levels. He was with FC Dallas of Major League Soccer for three years, serving as a youth club coach in that area. Before that, he was the top assistant for the Atlanta Beat of the WUSA.
Gordon’s wife, Ashley Gordon, is accompanying him from Tech to serve as an MSU assistant. They take over a program that went 9-10-1 this past fall, including a 2-10-1 mark in SEC play. The Lady Bulldogs suffered a seven-match losing streak, and Neil Macdonald was dismissed after nine seasons and a 58-103-14 record.
