Post-Practice Videos: Northwestern Talks MSU, Nicknames and Cowbells

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | My, but it’s been a busy Friday for me. First I went out to Northwestern’s practice this morning, viewed some of it, then spoke with a handful of people. Then it was a quick trip across town to take in MSU’s early afternoon practice. Talked with a few coaches and players once it was finished.

So, as usual, I have plenty of videos to share. I’m still working on uploading all the MSU interviews, so until then, please enjoy some chats with Northwestern players and head coach Pat Fitzgerald. We’ll start with quarterback Kain Colter, a dual-threat guy who also lines up at receiver on occasion. After him, we’ll hear from speedy tailback/return man Venric Mark, linebacker David Nwabuisi, and finally Fitzgerald.

By the way, when I asked Nwabuisi about having to deal with cowbells, he replied, “What’s the cowbells?” Fitzgerald had an interesting take on nicknames, which are common on his team, and how they are a sign of good chemistry. Plenty of good stuff here.

I am the online content coordinator for DJournal.com. Previously at the Journal, I covered Mississippi State athletics (2008-13), high schools (2004-08), and was on the copy desk (2002-04). I'm working on a recipe for bacon-flavored coffee, which would solve all the world's problems.

I suspect that come Tuesday afternoon, win or lose, he wil know all about the cowbells and will never forget about them the rest of his life.
