Hello, all. Happy Monday to you, if there is such a thing.
It’s the first full week of 2013, and we are transitioning from football season into football recruiting and SEC basketball. If you didn’t see it yesterday, I had a season in review/lookahead in the Journal. Glancing ahead at the 2013 schedule, it’s going to be a tough road, and I’m really not sure how many games MSU will win. Still a long way off.
As we move forward, we’ll be keeping an eye on the vacancies Dan Mullen must fill on his coaching staff. He needs somebody to coach the defensive line and the cornerbacks, and it’ll be interesting to see who Mullen hires. He’s got a strong track record when it comes to hiring assistants. By the way, Chris Wilson to Georgia is all but official.
By the way, just 30 days ’til national signing day.
• MSU’s basketball team (5-7) opens SEC play on Wednesday versus South Carolina (10-3). I’ll be there to provide coverage, and I’ll also be in Starkville this afternoon for a press conference with coach Rick Ray and some of his players. Prior to that, Ray will be on the first SEC coaches teleconference of the season.
• The big game is tonight: No. 2 Alabama vs. No. 1 Notre Dame for the BCS title. The Crimson Tide enters this game as a 10-point favorite, but how could the Fighting Irish go about winning this game? Parrish Alford and I attempted to answer that question. … Georgia QB Aaron Murray is coming back for his senior season. … Former Bulldog Jarvis Varnado has been waived by the Boston Celtics.
