Mississippi State just picked up a huge verbal commitment this afternoon. Itawamba AHS tailback Ashton Shumpert made his pledge to the Bulldogs, ending a very long recruitment process.
Scout.com first reported Shumpert’s commitment.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder is coming off a stellar senior season in which he rushed for 1,796 yards and 25 touchdowns despite missing the first three games with illness. He was named the Daily Journal’s offensive player of the year.
Shumpert, a four-star prospect according to 247Sports.com, is the 21st commitment of MSU’s 2013 class, and he’s the only running back. (West Bolivar tailback Kailo Moore recently withdrew his MSU commitment.) Shumpert had several big-time offers, including Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss.
Signing day is Feb. 6.
