Steele Traveling with Bulldogs, Expected to Play

MSU junior guard Jalen Steele, who has been suspended the last three games for an unspecified violation of team rules, is with the team as it travels to Tuscaloosa this evening. He’s expected to be available to play when the Bulldogs take on Alabama at 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Steele’s return gives MSU (7-17, 2-10 SEC) six available scholarship players, plus two walk-ons. Sophomore forward Roquez Johnson will begin serving an indefinite suspension with tomorrow’s game.

Steele, a starter, is averaging 9.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, shooting 34.5 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range. It’s not known whether he will be in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Head coach Rick Ray has not yet responded to a text message seeking comment.
