Football Returns in Full Force This Week

I’m back from vacation, and football is now back in our crosshairs. MSU’s season opener against Oklahoma State is just 47 days away, and the offseason becomes preseason this week.

That’s because the annual SEC media days begin Tuesday at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Ala. Over the course of three days, coaches and players from all 14 teams will address the media. MSU is up on Wednesday, which will be the busiest day – six teams make the rounds. Joining coach Dan Mullen will be quarterback Tyler Russell, linebacker Benardrick McKinney and defensive lineman Kaleb Eulls.

But who says we have to wait until then to talk to people? We’re going to have a chance to catch up with a handful of players later today in Starkville, so I’ll have a dispatch from there around supper time.

For tomorrow’s paper, I’m going to come up with five questions I believe Mullen will be asked this week, and of course the Journal will have blanket coverage from Hoover all week.

• A couple of very notable SEC stars are scheduled to appear in Hoover this week: South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. If Manziel doesn’t win a second consecutive Heisman Trophy, it could be because Clowney wins it. For a full list of when teams are appearing and who will be talking, click here.

• A good way to get ready for the season is to download the MSU football media guide. And take note of the many jersey number changes. Gonna take me a while to remember them all.

I am the online content coordinator for DJournal.com. Previously at the Journal, I covered Mississippi State athletics (2008-13), high schools (2004-08), and was on the copy desk (2002-04). I'm working on a recipe for bacon-flavored coffee, which would solve all the world's problems.
