STARKVILLE – Mississippi State released a statement Tuesday afternoon that shooting guard Jalen Steele would not play his senior season for the Bulldogs.

The release stated that Steele “has decided not to play his senior season and will instead focus on graduating in the spring”. The Knoxville, Tenn., native took to Twitter (@JalenSteele0) a few hours later to explain his side of the story.

Steele tweeted…

“Hilarious I’m not done playing just wanted to take a year off to get stronger and be strong for my senior year.”

“I came back last year to play ball and also for the people of Mississippi state we a family but there is always a home wrecker.”

“All I wanted was a redshirt and come back stronger next year but they got what they wanted…..”

“I hope my dude stay strong those snakes  coming for him Next I heard they said 1 down 1 more to go…..”

He also retweeted his head coach at Fulton High School Jody Wright (@Fultonhoops)  which read “Pretty crappy the way Miss St sending out misinformation on @Jalensteele0 trying to say a guys career is over when its not. They are wrong!!”

Steele’s departure leaves only two scholarship players – Wendell Lewis and Roquez Johnson - remaining from Rick Stansbury‘s final squad.

    Confusing.
I don’t think I’d sit out a year only to transfer to another school for one season.

Sounds like he wanted to take a break this season and redshirt…but next season’s allotment of scholarships is used up. Thus, the predicament and the usual public venting ala twitter. Lack of communication.
