STARKVILLE – Mississippi State senior Baker Swedenburg has been nominated for the Ray Guy Award watch list given annually to the nation’s top punter.

The former Heritage Academy standout from Columbus was a preseason All-SEC selection and is one of two remaining players on the Bulldogs roster from the Sylvester Croom era.

Swedenburg has appeared in six games this fall and ranks fifth in the league with a 44.6 yard average.

The watch list of 85 punters will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists on Nov. 8 and dwindled down to three finalists on Nov. 25. The award will be presented on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12.

The Ray Guy Award is named for the former Southern Miss standout that spent 14-years in the NFL and was a seven-time pro bowler.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
