STARKVILLE – Mississippi State junior Brandon Woodruff was dominant and fellow junior Cody Walker hit a two-run home run Saturday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field as Black shut out Gray with a 5-0 triumph in seven innings. The Bulldogs wrap up the weekend scrimmage schedule with an intrasquad exhibition Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

Woodruff looked the part of an ace Saturday, sprinkling two hits over four scoreless innings. The right-hander struck out one and walked one and has now totaled 5 2/3 hitless innings this fall. Junior righty Ben Hudspeth replaced him out of the bullpen and tossed two scoreless innings of his own, giving up one hit and striking out one.

Black’s first two runs of the game came via Demarcus Henderson, who scored in the first on a double by senior C.T. Bradford and again in the third on a throwing miscue by Gray’s catcher.

Walker doubled Black’s 2-0 lead in the fourth with a towering home run to left field, scoring him and redshirt junior Wes Rea.

The fifth run for the home team came in the fifth when junior Seth Heck doubled down the left-field line and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Alex Detz. Detz then hit a two-RBI double in the sixth and scored on a double by Rea to make it 8-0 in favor of Black.
