A crowded backfield at Mississippi State has caused one Mississippi State running back to transfer.
Rising junior Derrick Milton has asked for a release from his scholarship after three years in the Bulldogs program.
Milton (@The_Milton2_8) tweeted a message to MSU fans that read “Thanks for all the love and support from my bulldawg family will always love and miss you”.
The six-foot, 210-pounder from Pineville, La., appeared in 22 games during his MSU career rushing 47 times for 234 yards and five touchdowns. Milton also caught two passes for 17 yards.
Although Milton played in 12 games in 2013, he only had rushing attempts in five outings carrying 13 times for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Milton is a former three-star signee out of Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy. He is the younger brother of former Oklahoma and NFL running back Chris Brown.
Milton is expected to transfer to McNeese State. His departure leaves senior Nick Griffin, junior Josh Robinson, sophomore Ashton Shumpert returning at running back as well as two tailbacks committed – Aeris Williams of West Point and Dontavian Lee of Forrest County AHS.
