Former Mississippi State defensive tackle Quay Evans signed with the University of West Georgia on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder from Morton was one of the Bulldogs top signees in the 2012 class rated as a five-star prospect. Some recruiting services had Evans as its top Mississippi recruit and was a first team, All-State selection making 72 tackles, 4.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries as a senior for the Panthers.

Evans appeared in 15 games during his two seasons in Starkville recording 10 tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Evans saw action in just five games for MSU in 2013 making three stops including one for loss. He did not appear in the final seven games. Evans did not make the trip to Houston for the season opener against Oklahoma State either.

Evans was arrested on campus on Oct. 30 for suspicion of driving without a license and disregarding a traffic control device.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
