Mississippi State junior right-hander Will Cox has thrown his last pitch of the 2014 season.

The Amory native underwent surgery on his throwing arm Thursday which affectively ended his year on the mound for the Bulldogs.

“He had a surgery so yeah, he’ll be done for the season,” said MSU coach John Cohen.

Cox pitched in four games this season and notched a pair of saves. He had a 2.25 earned run average with 12 strikeouts and two walks in eight innings of work. Cox has not pitched since March 7 against UC-Santa Barbara.

The 6-foot-4, 231-pounder has appeared in 29 career games and made 10 starts for the Diamond Dogs sporting a 5-2 record.

Cox is the third MSU pitcher to have a season-ending procedure this year joining  Paul Young and John Marc Shelly.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
