The commitment of Keith Mixon late Friday night capped off a monumental day for Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs added eight football commitments and one baseball pledge during the day. The seven additions to the 2015 football class boosted MSU five spots in the 247Sports.com team rankings up to No. 9 nationally with 25 commitments.

Mixon is a three-star prospect considered the No. 15 all-purpose back nationally and 23rd best prospect in Alabama according to 247Sports.com.

The 5-foot-10, 165-pounder chose the Bulldogs over offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, South Alabama, Troy and UAB.

In 2013, Mixon helped lead Shades Valley High School to a 10-2 record and into the second round of the Class 6A State Playoffs. He rushed 123 times for 1,177 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding 48 catches for 910 yards and 14 more scores. He also had 286 kick return yards and three touchdowns.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
